Tom Brosseau performing live at Hotel Cafe Tonight.
[MP3] Tom Brosseau - I Fly Wherever I Go
Howdy friends and friends of friends!
Im still in New York City. I will be here till Thursday - arriving back in LA in time for The New Amsterdams and Street To Nowhere at the Troubadour (so excited!)
My brain is shell shocked from the last month, but it’s looking as though things might actually be on their way back to normal. Thank goodness. I shall give you a more detailed update soon.
In the meantime:
I found this Tom Brosseau track on the net a few months ago. I was kind of shocked how “I Fly Wherever I Go” perfectly complements my situation right now. Gorgeous song loaded with lap steel.
The Smudge of Ashen Fluff has Tom Brosseau’s KEXP session available in mpFREE format. [DOWNLOAD]
Tom Brosseau will be performing at the Hotel Cafe TONIGHT and will […]

Rock Insider: Extreme Makeover Addition

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2007

Rock Insider 2.0
I know y’all were quite fond of the Blogger issue layout I have been rocking for the past two years (Geez, it’s been almost 2 years!). This weekend I finally launched a new layout for Rock Insider. I shall miss ole greenie, but I must say the newer, sleeker, SEXIER, Rock Insider is has me wraped in her spell…
The layout is having issues with I.E. but will be compatible soon. Look for new sections photos, a video blog, and a Los Angeles concert calendar launching in the next few weeks. In the meantime take a look around and tell me what you think. If you have any suggestions for the layout please feel free to leave it in the comments!

In NYC Listening To Thailand

Posted by admin on February 23rd, 2007

Thailand
[MP3] Thailand - This Officer’s Life
Howdy Y’all.
I sincerely apologize for the lack of post last night. I am in New York City getting down to business and making myself useful. If you would like to get together or know anything fun going down this weekend in New York message me and we shall hang out. Email: jax@rockinsider.com
I’ve found that even though I am miles away from home I can’t stop listening to Thailand. Not the country - the Echo Park, CA electro-rock quartet(I wonder if Asia knows about them….anyways). Joe from Radio Free Silverlake has been singing their praises for ages now - including having them play his awesome Let’s Independent night at Boardner’s this past October with Division Day. It wasnt until the band sent me their album in the mail this past week that I was able to really get a feel for the amazing […]

Grizzly Bear At The Troubadour, Cold War Kids At The El Rey

Grizzly Bear Show At Troubadour SOLD OUT
[MP3] Grizzly Bear - Knife[MP3] Foreign Born - Into Your Dream[MP3] Papercuts - John Brown
I totally missed the boat on Grizzly Bear’s critically acclaimed album Yellow House last year. It was an overwhelming favorite among pitchforkians, college radio programmers, and bloggers alike. A band with the ability to bridge that kind of gap is worthy of acclaim.
Grizzly Bear take experimental folk to new levels with Yellow House. The record combines simple parts to beautiful melodies and somehow molds them into an intricate masterpiece undiscerning to even the most cultured music fan. The record is seamless - floating effortlessly from track to track. This allows the listener to get lost in the lush score and enjoy even the tiniest chime to its fullest.
Grizzly Bear will be playing TONIGHT at the Troubadour with Papercuts and local shoegaze favorites Foreign Born. The show is SOLD OUT.
ALSO:Cold War […]

Video: Michael Leviton - “Summer’s The Worst”

Michael Leviton Shoots New Video “Summer’s The Worst”
[VIDEO] Michael Leviton - Summer’s The Worst
I got an email the other day from Michael Leviton. He just finished a new video for “Summer’s The Worst”- one of my favorite tracks of 2006. The video is a short educational film about the dangers of summer romance. Beautiful video with a very fishy ending. You can read more about the making of the video here.
New York readers can enjoy Michael and his ukulele this Sunday night at Goodbye Blue Monday in Bushwick. Michael is on at 9 PM and the show is FREE.

New Music For The Mundays: Jill Cunniff

JILL CUNNIFF
[MP3] Jill Cunniff - Lazy Girls
2007 got off to a dark a dreary start but thanks to a resurgence of sunshine pop music is putting me back in line.
One such artist greatly improving my mood these days is Former Luscious Jackson frontwoman Jill Cunniff. Luscious Jackson disbanded in late 2000 so Jill could start a family. Her solo effort, City Beach, is in stores today through The Militia Group. There isn’t one negative point on City Beach. Songs like “Happy Warrior” and the freaking adorable “Lazy Girls” have been putting me in a smiley mood amid the stress.
“Lazy Girls” has been getting a lot of play on KCRW. City Beach is a delightfully breezy record. If you need some cheering up I strongly recommend this record.
Los Angeles readers can catch Jill performing live March 29th at The Hotel Cafe.
