Tonight In Los Angeles: Division Day Residency

Posted by admin on February 19th, 2007

Division Day + JAX dj
VIDEO: Division Day - Hurricane

Division Day, Twilight Sleep, Bedroom Walls, Tigers Can Bite You @ Club Spaceland - I haven’t been DJing out much lately. There’s really no excuse. I’ve just been lazy. Tonight I will be manning the decks at Spaceland for Division Day’s Residency. The Bronson and I ended up switching last minute because I have to go out of town next week. We might end up tag teaming it tonight. I will see his The Few and raise him a Mezzanine Owl. Bring it Bman!
I promised the guys in Division Day I wouldn’t hop on stage again and make a scene. I should probably inform you that I am indeed bringing the tamborine (IT HAS LIGHTS! Blame Seb. He gave it to me) and I will keep my rockin’ reserved to the sound board.

HELL YA! This Thursday With Polus, Red Monroe

Posted by admin on February 18th, 2007

HELL YA! Thursday At The Echo![MP3] Red Monroe - Carolina CigaretteIn the year and a half that Heather and I have been DJing together I have never missed a HELL YA! - our club night at The Echo. There was one time I didn’t DJ because of a horrible burn on most of my face. Still I managed to come and support thanks to a very large pair of sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt.
This Thursday my HELL YA! perfect attendence trophy will be revoked. I’m heartbroken. It had such a nice place on my mantle next to my bowling trophys. Alas, I will be in New York City on business and unable to DJ.
Heather will still be spinning all the great indie rock you’ve come to expect at HELL YA! and performances from Red Monroe, Polus, Pan America, and new L.A. sesnsation The Wildbirds are sure to set your Thursday […]

How’d Blonde Redhead Know It Was My Birthday?

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2007

Blonde Redhead
[MP3] Blonde Redhead - 23
I felt compelled to post this track because:
a.) I am quite the Blonde Redhead fan. And b.) I shall celebrate 23 years on this earth in less than 3 weeks time (March 10th the party is on!).
“23″ is the title track off Blonde Redhead’s forthcoming album - in stores April 10th. It’s as if Blonde Redhead knew I needed a signature album for 2007.
23 (not to be confused with this 23) is the band’s first release in 3 years. 2004’s Misery is a Butterfly left many diehard BR fans perplexed. The emotional record was moody and (dare I say) dark - a far cry from the beautiful drone and crunchy noise rock that originally threw them in the same class as Sonic Youth. The record was a departure from the usual, but any record with Kazu Makino’s haunting voice is still a gem […]

By the Dead Seaside

Posted by on February 17th, 2007

I mentioned previously that my Supermodel Wife and I went to Union Station Wednesday to see the famous Dead Sea Scrolls.
We were both excited to see this exhibit. It has certainly been ballyhooed in KC since it opened a few weeks ago. The actual experience didn’t necessarily live up to my expectations. Don’t get me wrong, there were some very positive points. But there were a few things that left me thinking it could have been much better.
First, despite the millions of dollars spent to bring the exhibit to KC, despite all of the preparation and publicity, when we actually arrived at Union Station the admission process didn’t say “We’re excited you’re here and we want you to see this exhibit.”
There was a single person selling tickets at the ticket counter. I imagine they typically don’t need more than one person on a Wednesday morning at Union Station. […]

Weekend Concert Calendar: My Girlfriend Returns To L.A.

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2007

My Girlfriend - NEKO CASE
[MP3] Neko Case - Deep Red Bells (Live From Austin, TX)
Most people know of my unyielding borderline psychotic obsession with Neko Case (don’t worry - no restraining orders needed. The last one is still in effect). Last years’ Fox Confessor Brings The Flood was my all purpose record for 2006. Heck, it’s my all purpose record for 2007! No matter what mood I’m in - be it happy, sad, nostalgic, angry, depressed, melancholy, tired, or just plain moobie (my all purpose word for feeling “meh”) Fox Confessor was the perfect CD for the moment.
At long last my girlfriend Neko Case will be returning to Los Angeles playing the Henry Fonda Theater Saturday night. Will Saturday be the night I at long last profess my undying love for her and her heavenly voice? Well, I got tickets so we shall see!!!
I recently got Neko Case “Live From […]
