Beastie Boys Go Instrumental For The Mix-Up

Posted by on May 2nd, 2007

Adrock, Mike D, and MCA are releasing lucky LP number seven on June 26th via Capitol, but there won’t be any White Castle references, Brooklyn love, or Tibetan chanting — in fact, no vocalized sentiments at all. This time out the trio are sticking solely to their instruments, with some help from unofficial fourth B Boy Money Mark and percussionist Alfredo Ortiz.
Mike D told P4K that it’ll be nothing like The In Sounds From Way Out!, instead drawing on the likes of PiL, the Killing Joke, the Slits, and Gang Of Four for inspiration. So who wants to be the one to tell the Beasties that copping Gang Of Four was an ‘05 thing? Here’s what they’ve cooked up for a cover…

The Mix-Up tracklist after the jump.

New Justice Video - “D.A.N.C.E.”

Posted by on May 2nd, 2007

Fresh off drawing one of the most party hungry (and attractive, by the way) crowds at Coachella to the Sahara tent Saturday night, electro duo Justice jockey for more plaudits with this clip of shifty tees and slow strolling to their “D.A.N.C.E.” anthem’s chunky beats. Pretty sure it’ll work out for ‘em, as kids chants, animation, and string samples usually spells ‘irresistible’ — or in this case, well, you know.

Jeff Buckley Covers The Smiths

Posted by on May 2nd, 2007

Few artists could sustain the sort of rarity scrounging posthumous repackaging treatment Jeff gets — but naturally we’ve bought just about every boxed set/live show/remastered demo release mom Mary Guibert’s put together (and then some she hasn’t). But the tenth anniversary of Jeff’s death approaches, a natural time for reflection on his tragically brief recording career — and a natural time for another retrospective release. Naturally.

After boldly proclaiming festival know it all Demetri Martin to be the new Rachel Hunter, finally we’ve got the videographic goods — though Demetri’s turn as FoW show star is considerably less arousing, save his living room dance in skin-tight long johns (zexy). No happy endings here, though Seth Shapiro looks like he could use one.

Fountains fans should give up on Conan in San Fran for a night and check in with Craig Ferguson, who’s got the band as tonight’s musical guest. Demetri not included.

Since seeing that cover, we’ve been waiting for Perry to say “Just kidding!” about this whole Satellite Party thing. Think it’s safe to say, officially, we’re done waiting.

In a recent interview about the state of society, this artist came clean about a conflicted bias against the bearded.
Even I get nervous when I see someone with one! If I don’t know who that person is. It’s true that some beards look a bit frightening. Some of these people, I know them, they look ferocious. The beard happens to give a masculine look, a more virile appearance, but what goes on behind it, well, I’m an example, if you listen to my music.
Make yer guess, take the jump.
