NME’s 50 Greatest “Indie Anthems”

Posted by on May 3rd, 2007

XFM and NME have joined forces to bring you their user poll, counting down the 50 greatest anthems in indie rock (criteria? your guess is as good as ours). You could try and guess which band delivered the #1 single … or you could take the over/under on the number of Oasis tracks to make the cut, which we’ve set at 5. Good luck!
50 My Bloody Valentine - ‘You Made Me Realise’49 The Rapture - ‘House Of Jealous Lovers’48 Sonic Youth - ‘Bull In The Heather’47 The Libertines - ‘Up The Bracket’46 Dinosaur Jr - ‘Freak Scene’45 The La’s - ‘There She Goes’44 The Stone Roses - ‘Love Spreads’43 Suede - ‘Animal Nitrate’42 The Cribs - ‘Hey Scenesters’41 Blur - ‘Parklife’40 Klaxons - ‘Golden Skans’

Madonna Gets Freak Folkie

Posted by on May 3rd, 2007

Another tribute tracklist for this fine Thursday, although this one’s already got a name — and also happens to be infinitely less sad than the last. NME reports that the likes of Devendra Banhart, Bat For Lashes, Lavender Diamond, Ariel Pink, Giant Drag, and VietNam will tackle tunes from the material girl’s catalogue for Through The Wilderness: A Tribute To Madonna, to benefit Madge’s Raising Malawi charitable organization. Most of ‘em seem promising, though we want vid reenactments. Devendra in pink strapless dress and gloves to match doing “Material Girl“? Hott. Track assignments after the jump.

With 2007 shaping up to be the year of the reunion, we were pretty excited to hear that Too Much Joy, whose harmonica-tastic take on LL Cool J’s “That’s A Lie” and 2 Live Crew cover show pretty much…

New Alex Delivery - “Sheath-Wet”

Posted by on May 3rd, 2007

Alex Delivery is not advised for the ADD addled. On the Brooklyn based indie kraut outfit’s Star Destroyer, the majority of tunes stretch well over nine minutes — and even then, take their time reaching a redeeming stride. But do a little digging and bear with the band’s starry-eyed caravan be rewarded. “Sheath-Wet” is an example; the track doesn’t find a sweet spot until 3:30, but builds to something better with each passing minute marker from then out.

If you’re feeling patient and are inclined to invest a little time with AD, though, you should start with “Komad,” the record’s lead track and standout — also clocking in over ten minutes, but a better model for the Delivery’s kraut jamz.

Alex Delivery’s got some May tourdates with Stereofaves Frog Eyes, dates TK.
