New Beastie Boys - “The Rat Cage”

Posted by on May 14th, 2007

They weren’t kidding about the all-instrumental part. But as far as Mike D saying it’ll be straight “post-punk instrumental” and sound nothing like their last sans vocals effort … well, with Money Mark on keys, you’re bound to get The In Sounds From Way Out!’s groovy flavor. Anyway, Reader Becky sent us this taste of The Mix-Up, saying “Personally, I love it.” Have a listen…

New Ferraby Lionheart

Posted by on May 14th, 2007

Head to MySpace to check on the progress artist to watch Ferraby Lionheart’s been making on his big debut LP for Nettwerk. We gave you a listen of “Before We’re Dead (New Orleans Song)” a few months back, now there’s three more to sample: the Elliott Smith-y “Vermont Avenue”; the lovely, lazy, glocks-and-piano-pop of “Small Planet”; and the croony acoustic ditty “A Bell And Tumble.”
FUN FACT: Ferraby Lionheart is his birthname. Fer reals.
Catch The Brass Ring is out 9/4 on Nettwerk.

All that stays serene about this stunning newbie from Animal Collective is the piano melody; the rest, as you’d expect, is prone to sonic freak outs and the Geologist’s manipulative madness. P4K dug up this clip, recorded for TVP Kultura, a Polish arts and culture network, and it’s a must-watch for AC fans.

Maybe “Cuckoo” will turn up on Animal Collective’s forthcoming Domino-released LP, maybe it won’t (we have no idea, actually) — but it oughta get you primed for the band’s tour, which kicks off tonight in Ohio. Dates after the jump.
